Posco + China Steel maintain exports to Japan
July-September exports from Posco and China Steel to Japan will probably remain unchanged at 400,000t and 180,000t respectively over the quarter, Steel Business Briefing understands from market sources.
Both companies are lifting exports of flat-rolled items such as automotive products, where demand is strong. However, they are likely to compensate by reductions in other areas, namely in stainless CR from Posco, and heavy plates from China Steel.
In June, China Steel warned Japanese customers of a 20% cut in its heavy plate supplies this quarter, it says, to meet demand at home. The move is reducing its shipments to Japan to 10,000t over the three months, SBB has been told.
