Japanese scrap prices firm
Results of the recent Kanto Tetsugen export tender reflect firmer scrap prices. Its tender on August 12 saw one 5,000t lot of H2 grade scrap sold at ¥23,250/t ($212/t) fas and another 5,000t lot at ¥23,050/t fas. Both are for September shipments. Last month, 15,000t was sold at an average tender price of ¥19,593/t in Kanto"s July 14 tender.
In Posco"s August 11 tender, 5,000-6,000t of Japanese Shindachi was booked at around ¥27,700t/t fob ($253/t), according to unconfirmed reports.
"Prices are moving up, up, up," a purchasing mill manager tells SBB. "But suppliers are pushing up prices," he adds.
But he and others tell that the markets are in general still quiet. A north east Asian trader admits that he has had "no business so far" since the middle of last week.
