US Steel Europe adds Euro 40/t to flat products
US Steel Europe has announced an increase in the prices of all flat rolled products by a minimum of Euro 40/tonne for all new orders received from today (16 August. The company"s last across-the-board increase was in January 2005.
This is the first commercial flat products price increase announcement to come out of a major European mill for about 6 months. At that time, most producers signalled increases for the forthcoming Q2, despite high stocks and a weakening market.
This increase could be the signal for other flat products price announcements by other mills in the region. Arcelor has recently said on several occasions that it too could be looking for a price increase from Q4.
The Euro 40/t increase relates to orders at both US Steel Kosice and US Steel Serbia. Kosice produces HRC, CRC, HDG, prepainted coil, electrical sheet and tinplate, while the Smederevo plant in Serbia produces HRC, CRC, HDG and tinplate.
